Balance and Functionality at the Vastrap Boran 10th Auction
The following interview took place between SwiftVEE and Quentin de Bruyn of Vastrap Boran. Read the blog post below where he tells us all about their upcoming auction, everything on offer, and much more.
1. Introduce yourself
I am Quentin de Bruyn. My wife, Marisa, and I run the Vastrap Boran Stud on our farm Vastrap, near Ladybrand in the Free State.
4. What is your breeding policy, and why?
I breed animals that are slightly larger than average, but that maintain balance and functionality. I raise my stud animals under extensive commercial farming conditions and fastidiously measure performance to see which animals are the most adapted to commercial farming operations.
5. Give us some history regarding your stud.
We started our Boran stud in 2010 with our first stud bull, SPJ 07-106 and also purchased our first cow in that year which we named Eve TLM 02-43. Our stud was put on the map by our first major acquisition of Jackie MHB 05-08 and shortly thereafter by the purchase of the entire Mollshoop (MHB) Boran stud from Jacques Moll.
6. Anything else you would like to share?
Vastrap Boran has consistently received Studbook Elite gold awards and been named in the top performing Boran Society studs, again being awarded the Top Performing large Boran stud in South Africa for 2022. This is an indication of our management practices and quality of our genetics.
